Literary works of Ivan Shamyakin are well-known all over the world; the principal idea of his novels was to show the act of bravery of the Belarusians in the pre-war and post war (Great Patriotic War) times. His stories were focused on ordinary people’s life and a strong wish of peace-oriented people to create safety future for the next generations.
On January 30, 2016 Ivan Shamyakin, writer, laureate of State and Literature Awards of USSR and the Republic of Belarus, honorable academician of NAS of Belarus, classic of national literature, celebrates his 95th anniversary.Literary works of Ivan Shamyakin are well-known all over the world; the principal idea of his novels was to show the act of bravery of the Belarusians in the pre-war and post war (Great Patriotic War) times. His stories were focused on ordinary people’s life and a strong wish of peace-oriented people to create safety future for the next generations.
Works of Ivan Shamyakin are a problem-plagued field for research. In 1989 Galina Dashkevich defended a PhD thesis “Investigation of Ivan Shamyakin’s Novels”. Annually students and master’s degree students explore the creative works of Ivan Shamyakin and devote their course and final works to analytical treatment of these literature masterpieces.
Since 2009 International Shamyakin Readings “Writer – Person - Time” have been held at the premises of Philology Department (Organizer – Chair of Russian and Belarusian Philology).
Thus, the name of Ivan Shamyakin, his creative works, social and teachers’ training activity are still supposed to be a guide and example for the 21st cent. youth and society.
