PROFESSIONAL PROFICIENCY COMPETITION

On September 19, 2019 a Regional contest for professional proficiency among the representatives of the corrections facilities was held. The aim of the contest was to check the correlation of psychological support and managerial issues with the standards developed for specialized establishments of a closed type, pretrial detention centers, compulsory rehabilitation centers working under the auspices of the Ministry of the Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus. The contest was held at the premises of the penitentiary facility “Correctional camp No. 20 of the Directorate of the Department for Corrections of the Ministry of the Internal Affairs in Gomel Region”. Elena Astreyko, PhD in Pedagogics, Associate Professor, was invited to act as a member of the jury committee.
The main objective of the contest was to conduct a competition among the prison population and followed the anti-alcohol activities, to test and endorse a new approach to arrangement of the contests of professional proficiency, to evaluate the skills of the Department for Corrections to arrange activities with crime suspects.
Workshops helped people to reveal personal psychological peculiarities, to settle conflicts, to help people who are alcohol-addicted. The competitors contended in the following categories: declamatory skills, motivation and guidance, pedagogical behavior, artistic skills, technical means of education.
At the end of the contest Elena Astreyko summed up the results of the competition and expressed her opinion upon a high level of the event and great proficiency of the workers of the Department for Correction.
